# Visual Studio Code

> Connect VS Code to the APIBrasil MCP server through the official MCP Servers extension and reach the APIs while you code.

- **Category:** IDEs and editors
- **Difficulty:** Easy
- **Protocol:** connects to the MCP server
- **Updated on:** January 14, 2026

## Prerequisites

- VS Code installed (version 1.85+)
- The 'MCP Servers' extension installed
- Access to the APIBrasil MCP

## Configuration

- **File:** `settings.json`

```json
{
  "mcp.servers": {
    "https://mcp.apibrasil.cloud/mcp": {
      "name": "APIBrasil MCP",
      "url": "https://mcp.apibrasil.cloud/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

## Step by step

1. **Install the MCP Servers extension** — In VS Code, open Extensions (Ctrl+Shift+X), search for 'MCP Servers' and install the official one
2. **Open the VS Code settings** — Press `Ctrl/Cmd + ,` and click the file icon in the top-right corner to open settings.json
3. **Add the MCP configuration** — Paste the JSON configuration into your settings.json
   ```json
   {
     "mcp.servers": {
       "https://mcp.apibrasil.cloud/mcp": {
         "name": "APIBrasil MCP",
         "url": "https://mcp.apibrasil.cloud/mcp"
       }
     }
   }
   ```
4. **Check the configured endpoint** — Confirm the server URL is right: https://mcp.apibrasil.cloud/mcp
5. **Reload VS Code** — Press Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + P and run 'Developer: Reload Window'
6. **Check the MCP status** — The status bar at the bottom should show the MCP server as connected

## Troubleshooting

- **The MCP Servers extension is nowhere to be found** — It may still be in preview. Turn on 'Show Pre-release Versions' in the extension marketplace
- **The MCP server will not connect** — Check the configured URL and open the extension logs at View > Output > MCP Servers
- **The MCP server will not connect (logs)** — Read the extension logs at View > Output > MCP Servers for the details of the failure
- **The MCP commands never appear** — Uninstall and reinstall the extension, then restart VS Code completely
